Tour to France, 2008

Our tour to France at the beginning of May again was a fantastic  success.  The weather this year was absolutely scorching, well into the high 20's, and we all managed to come back a little pinker than when we went and this year it wasn't due to the consumption of rose wine!!  Again, as last year, we played two games, one each on Saturday & Sunday and the most pleasing thing about this year's tour was seeing some "vets" back on the pitch (Dawn Broad & Sally Grayland) after having retired (lets just say) quite a few years ago!  Sally showed she has not lost any of her bowling prowess and plumb bowled one gentleman with one of her demon donkey droppers, I think he is still looking skyward waiting for the ball to drop! Please take a look at our Rogues Gallery as the photos tell a story all of their own!

For many of us the highlight of our trip was a BBQ on Sunday evening held at our B&B host's Mazet, which is a small stone building in the middle of their 10 acre vineyard.  The food was out of this world and as a gift from them to us we were each given our own vine - they know us soooo well!  So who knows, this time next year we could be sipping Causeway Stoolball Club wine - how very fitting for a team that likes a tipple or two!

The hospitality extended by our French counterparts is always overwheling, they are all so warm and freindly and really get in to the spirit of our tour expectations.  We've made some fantastic friends over the past two years and we have already pencilled in the same weekend for next year, I can't belive they are still so keen to have us back!

Where we stay in France

Club AGM

This took place on 7th March 2008 where we elected our new team officials. Most positions remain unchanged from last year apart from a new vice captain was elected as Teresa felt that due to family commitments this summer she would not be able to give her all to it this season.  Therefore this season our new vice captain is Caroline Woodgate, we hope she enjoys the season in her new role and wish her every success.

Fund Raising Race Night

Our Race Night was a great success and in total we raised just over £2000, a proportion of which is going to the Causeway Village Hall.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening and got in to the spirit and certain races generated alot of cheering and shouting!  The money raised will go someway to repairing the pavilion which is in desperate need of repair and probably won't go as far as we think but at least it's a start.  A special thanks has to go to Sue Hewlitt for the fantastic food, Rowland, Geoff & Simon for manning the tote and everyone that sponsored races, horses and donated raffle prizes, the evening would have been nothing without you.
