History

Stoolball is thought to be the forerunner to cricket and is documented as early as the 1400's and is also said to be mentioned in a poem by William Pagula in 1330!

Maids were said to use their stools as a wicket and "bat' the ball using their hands, originally to pass the time between milking.  Although there is a theory that the stools were used as bats, hence why the stoolball bat is round.

The sport was taken to New England by the Pilgrim Fathers and was apparently played as a family game at Christmas and so gave rise to baseball. There is also a National Federation of Stoolball in India.
